Active Shooter Shot, Killed At San Antonio International Airport

A horrifying scene at San Antonio International Airport as a gunman opened fire at the front of the airport this afternoon.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says the shooting happened after an officer confronted the man as he started driving the wrong way into the airport. McManus says the man then pulled a handgun and started spraying bullets before the officer opened fire wounding the man who later died.

"The officer in my opinion was a hero today," said McManus. "The officer who stopped this individual saved a lot of lives. The shooter had a lot of ammunition and a big handgun that he was shooting indiscriminately."

It's believed he is the same man who fired off rounds near Loop 1604 and 281 in San Antonio just hours earlier. McManus says there is a history with the gunman, noting it's believed he has mental health issues. Two people at the airport suffered injuries in the ordeal. One was slightly injured from shrapnel while the other suffered a foot injury running to safety.
