Census Delays May Lead To Special Session For State Lawmakers

A delay in census results means the state legislature will probably have to meet in a special session this summer to carry out its redistricting duties. The U.S. Census Bureau is again delaying the release of the 2020 census results, possibly until after July. A Census Bureau official acknowledged on Wednesday that the population data that determine each state's number of congressional seats is usually expected to be released by April 30th. Lawmakers need the data so they can redraw districts that are more or less equal in population.
